Anthony W. Geraci

Police Training Consultant

Chief (Ret.) Anthony W. Geraci is a 25-year veteran of law enforcement in New York State, beginning his career in 1998 with the New York Police Department (NYPD) and most recently serving as Chief of Police for the City of Newburgh. Anthony has extensive operational and administrative leadership experience, including overseeing patrol operations, investigations and policy development, strategic planning, recruitment, training and accreditation.

During his tenure in Newburgh, he led a series of strategic initiatives, most notably achieving the largest statewide percentage reduction in shooting victims -(50%) in 2023 -among GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) jurisdictions. Chief (ret.) Geraci’s prior service with the Albany Police Department included the creation and launch of the City of Albany Police Academy, as well as leading the department through its first Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation and successful re-accreditation under the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

As the Unit Commander of the Neighborhood Engagement Unit in Albany, he led six specialized units—comprising 25% of all uniformed personnel—in deploying community policing strategies that significantly enhanced public trust and community engagement, including management of School Resource Officers (SRO) and serving as the department liaison to the City of Albany School District. This effort was honored by the White House in 2016 for leadership in implementing the 21st Century Policing Initiative.

Geraci is a certified Master Trainer for New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, delivering Procedural Justice and Implicit Bias training and train-the-trainer trainings to more than 2,000 law enforcement officers across New York State. He also participated in peer exchange operations to institutionalize principles of Procedural Justice in California, Florida, and Texas. He is a nationwide instructor conducting a train-the-trainer for ABLE (Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement) through Georgetown University’s Innovative Policing Program for officers across the nation.

He holds a Bachelor of Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration from Marist College. He has taught as an adjunct professor at the University at Albany’s School of Criminal Justice and Columbia-Greene Community College. Chief (ret.) Geraci is an Executive Fellow of the National Police Foundation, and a member of both the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police.
