Training Teaches 14 Police Officers About Teen Brains 03-25-18

RICHMOND, IN–

Fourteen Wayne County law enforcement officers last week completed two days of Policing the Teen Brain training.

The session at the Richmond Police Department Training Center was the fifth local offering of the training, according to a news release from Kory George, Wayne County’s chief probation officer. Training, which was developed by Strategies for Youth, improves interactions between law enforcement and youth, provides officers a better understanding of the development of the teen brain and thought process and teaches tactics for de-escalating interactions and avoiding use of force. The ultimate goal is a reduction in juvenile arrests.
